INDEFINITE HIATUS…

Posted: November 29, 2014 in Uncategorized

In the interest of full disclosure, I want to let y’all know that I haven’t written a word of fiction in the past eight months, and probably won’t ever again. I’ve become too annoyed and disheartened over the whole writing/submitting/acceptance/publishing process in the small press. My interactions with publisher/editors have been frustrating, to say the least. For example: 1) I submitted to one publisher, who said he liked my novella, but thought it would be much better if I shortened the whole tale. So I did, and resubmitted, only to have him say he preferred the original, longer version, but still wouldn’t publish it!? 2) Another publisher/editor black-balled me after I commented that he might be a bit partial to certain authors; he began rejecting everything I sent him. 3) Another well-known publisher pretty much refused to respond to my submissions for months, even years, at a time, because he preferred to work with more recognizable authors, although he was open to any and all submissions!? And I know, it sounds like I’m whining, and I probably am. But I truly feel (and my track record tends to support it) that my fiction is at least the equal of most authors getting published regularly in the small press. Maybe I’m biased, maybe I’m not. Regardless, at my age I simply can’t justify spending an hour or two almost every night in front of the computer, working on fiction that generally doesn’t sell, and when it does, it’s usually for pauper’s wages, while my wife sits by herself in front of the TV the whole while!? I’m not a young man, and I don’t want to miss any more time with her.

And of course, in the two or three years I’ve had this blog, I’ve received over 300 views! BUT NOT ONE OF YOU HAS EVER COMMENTED–to say Hi, what you like, what you don’t like, to go screw yourself, anything?! Writers work in a vacuum, it’s a lonely occupation. Feedback is important. And after all this time, it’s just not worth it anymore.

I’ve got a number of short stories and novellas that I’m forcing myself to send out and make the rounds, and a novella from Camelot Books that I’m told is in the printing stages, but it’s going to be up to you to check their website in the coming months if you’re interested in its release. I’ve just had it with everything.

I’d really like to say that I’ve enjoyed and had fun over the past four years, with this second incarnation of my “writing career”…but I won’t.

Meanwhile…

Still no news on the novella front!?*%#

In the meantime, a new short story of mine was published in a fine magazine from Alban Lake Press, Disturbed Digest. It’s called “Circus of the Macabre,” and it made the cover! Here’s the link if you so choose to purchase a copy of the magazine:

FRUSTRATED!?#@*

A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that I had signed the sig sheets for my upcoming novella and sent them back to the publisher. Well, just a week ago, I queried Camelot Books (there, I revealed the publisher, despite contractual obligations not to–I’m ticked off!) about the status of the artwork. Kim at Camelot told me that she had, in turn, reached out for the artist to find out how he was coming along with the artwork (he’s only had my story for two months now!!!). I haven’t heard back from her, and I’m thoroughly frustrated over how long it’s taken to see my novella in print! To think that an artist could hold up everything for this long is annoying and frustrating! And to think that an acceptance with Camelot back in mid-February would take anywhere near this long to come to fruition is ridiculous! It’s not like they are putting out book after book on a regular basis: they’re book sellers, not publishers! I honestly thought (silly me) that it would have been published by late spring. Now I’m just hoping that it sees release before the end of the year!?#@*

It’s Coming…

Just returned the signed signature sheets to the publisher of my upcoming novella, Essence of Amy. Won’t be long now…

Just Out – A New Short Story!

Posted: September 5, 2014 in Uncategorized

Mike Davis, the affable editor/publisher of the Lovecraft eZine, a web site dedicated to all things Lovecraftian and weird, just yesterday released issue #32, which contains my story, “The Presence.” His web site provides fiction for free, although for a few dollars you can also purchase a copy of the magazine in Kindle, Print, and other formats. I’ve included a link to my story below for your reading convenience, and for all of you to surf his fantastic website as well! Hope you enjoy it!

Coming Soon…

Well, I’ve just gone over the galleys for Essence of Amy and they look good! Everything’s finally coming ’round. I’m told the artist is doing his cover art as we speak and the sig sheets should be mailed to me by the middle/end of August. I’m hoping for a September release for this neat little novella! It’s gonna look real good!

In the meantime, I had a great little tale appear in Wyrd Daze online magazine last month! Great people there! And always friendly and garrulous editor, Trevor Denyer, of Britain’s Hellfire Crossroads magazine just accepted my short tale, “Breakdown Lane,” for his upcoming fourth issue!

Lots of good news forthcoming, and I’ll be posting updates as they become available!

In The Meantime…

Nothing new to report on my upcoming novella; I’m told by the publisher that they’re still working on it. That’s good enough for me! But, in the meantime, I sold a 4200 word tale to Mike Davis’ cool Lovecraft eZine last week; it should be appearing online and in TPB sometime later this year. And just a couple days ago I received word from the nice folks at Disturbed Digest that they would be publishing a little shorter tale of mine in their September, 2014 issue. So, good news all around! I’ll keep you posted!

Another Release!

Still unable to release any details about my upcoming HC novella publication. But, in the meantime, my short tale, “Snakes,” was just published in Disturbed Digest #4, from Alban Lake Press. If you’re so inclined, here’s the link:

Big News Update!

Posted: February 27, 2014 in Uncategorized

Sorry I can’t reveal any of the details yet, but I can tell you that I’ve just sold a 19,000 word novella, entitled, Essence of Amy, to a major small-press publisher! The contract precludes me from releasing the details just yet, but I’m looking for it to be available in a couple of months, I hope!

In the meantime, my short story, “Going Down,” was just released in Kindle format as a part of Trevor Denyer’s Hellfire Crossroads anthology, Vol. 2. It’s an affordable 99cents at Amazon, and well worth the price. Here’s the link:
